In Dispute Over “David”

September 1, 2010

Korea has many National Treasures and these often are publicised and documented as being national, or as belonging to all Koreans. Could you imagine if people from Suwon turned around and said that Hwaseong is not a Korean monument, but one that belongs to Suwon only? Or if Mount Seorak was declared as the property of Sokcho?

Have a read of this article from Italy.

Many people consider Michelangelo’s “David” as one of the most famous works of art in the world. It is also a statue that comes a close second in fame as a symbol of Italy, first place going to the Colosseum in Rome, and third I suppose would go to the canals in Venice.

Italy is a deeply historical country that takes pride in its art, Korea is too. Could you imagine if this took place in Korea?
