A Perfectly Normal Situation.

April 2, 2012
by

I love telling stories.

Those of you who have taken my class know that I never stop with the stories. Consider it a cultural thing. If you come to my home and meet my family, we don’t tell news, we tell stories about this person and that person. Even when we haven’t met someone for a long time, we don’t look for news, we look for any fun stories the person has. It’s a sign of someone’s mettle whether or not they have a good story to tell, regardless of whether or not the rest of their life is falling apart around them. Say what you want about this, but it’s the way things are where I’m from. It’s an Irish thing.

Stories are essentially narratives, and narratives are things that happen. We can create a narrative about anything that happens. And I mean ANYTHING!

The same ordinary things happen to us every day. We wake up. We eat. We walk down the road. We get on a bus. We chat with our friends and family. Often our days feel, well, normal or ordinary, and anything but exciting. We often struggle to come up with interesting or worthwhile stories or news to share because we are a little embarrassed about how boring things seem. For example, last night I was talking to my parents on skype for the first time in several weeks. I really didn’t have much news to talk about, other than, well I was working and when I wasn’t working I was at home spending time with my wife. It was all pretty ordinary.

However, when we write we always have to be sure that the person reading what we write is interested in our story. There are certain ways that we can do this more effectively. We need to think why is my particular story more interesting than the next person’s? How can I make my story better? One of the best ways to do this is to give lots of specific details, and to really convey the feelings and emotions of the people involved in a way that they can connect with them. This is not easy, but if you know who your readers are (and you do because they are your classmates) then it can be easy as you can predict how they feel about certain things. Also, we need to be very specific so that the reader can imagine our situation exactly, and so that they can distinguish it from every other situation which is comparable.

Most important of all, narrative writing can be very enjoyable.

This weeks blogging assignment aims to give you practice doing this.

Write a short narrative on one of the mundane or ordinary situations described below.

Remember, the aim of this exercise is for your short story to stand out (what I mean here is for it to be unique and distinct, not for it to be exceptionally well written) from the other contributors. Remember that every single detail is different from everyone else’s, but you need to be sure to show this clearly. You are free to be as flexible as you like with all of these.

Remember to consider the journalistic, or W, questions: who? where? when? what? why? how? (You can read more about them here)

Remember to take into account the key elements of a narrative: setting; theme; mood; characters; plot. (Take a look at page 37 of the textbook for details on these)

Remember to use appropriate transitions in your narrative (Take a look at pages 156 & 157 for a list)

Don’t tell the situation you have chosen, just write your paragraph. We should/will be able to tell from reading what it is you’re writing about.

Don’t compare your work with others!

Don’t try to be funny (if your story is funny, then it’s funny, but don’t go out of your way to be unnecessarily funny)

Do try to have fun with this.

Narrative writing is an essential element of all writing, and almost every piece of writing contain some narrative element. Narrative’s, generally speaking, are easy to write as their a→b structure or direction is uncomplicated. However, writing a good narrative is a difficult skill that takes time to master. While it is not an essential academic writing skill, forming correct and functional narratives is an essential language skill.

Instructions

1. Choose one of the following situations:

– waking up in the morning

– walking into the classroom

– buying a drink and then drinking it

– doing something with a musical instrument

– standing on a viewpoint and looking around

2. Write a paragraph, with at least 10 sentences.

Good luck!

P.S. Maybe I’ll try and write a narrative or two this time!

    Waking up in the morning

“Beep! Beep!” burst of alarm awaked me.

The alarm proclaimed beginning of the day. At the same time, it hit my nerves.Bending my body like a cocoon, my eyes were open.

Hangers greeted me as if they were my parents. I couldn’t reject flatly them; however the first thing I should do was awaking my body and soul.

Going to the showers, I faced lots of comrades who live in a gosiwon, which is kind of a dormitory.Showering my body and soul, I hope and resolve a good day. Heated water stimulated my dead body and it rejuvenated me.

After shower, I saw lots of roommates who were making theirs breakfast. In my room, wearing my clothes, I packed my bag. In front of the door, I tightened my strings of shoes.

Out of the building, I come across sound of the wind and of the trees rustling in the breeze.
It makes my mind wide and fine and the door of Neo-renaissance, which is built at Kyung Hee University unfolded its arms and greeted me.

I like your expression about ‘cocoon’. The story unfolds at a calm pace.

    • April 7, 2012 12:28 pm

About the cocoon, there is a little bit of confusion here. At first I wasn’t sure what you meant but now I do.

A cocoon doesn’t move, it’s like s shell. So to say you are bending like a cocoon, it doesn’t make sense. This is what a cocoon looks like: http://images.flowers.vg/1024×768/cocoon.jpg

What you need to say is that you were bending your body like when a butterfly emerges from its cocoon.

      • April 7, 2012 12:28 pm

        …or something like that.

      • Gee (T) permalink

I want to describe the apperance that I don’t want to move because the alarm of moring seems like tragedy for me.. so I use this expression but beinding my body like when a butterfly emrges from it’s cocoon is more speific. I just want to make more connotative expression.

        T-T

      • April 10, 2012 11:21 am

It doesn’t work like that. The popular parallels with the butterfly emerging and you not are too close that is where the confusion lies. You should be specific as that way you won’t be confused. If you’re rigid, describe yourself as something that is rigid. I think there are much more appropriate similes you could use.

The monday morning air is very nice, but my feeling is very fearful. My concern is about transporation problem, otherwise known as rush hour traffic. I walk to bus station every day. Everyday, I expect while I was walking is that fewer person is waiting at the bus stop . But with high expectation comes great disappointment for me..!! The bus stop was crowded with people! I have to make desperate efforts to riding on the bus. But this wasn’t the end of the my story. In the bus, my body was pressing against peoples. And I had to stand almost all the bus’s route. For that reason, my feeling is very tired when getting off the bus, but I must get go to the class room. Rush-hour traffic can ruin the my beautiful monday. The one way to solve the its provlem is wake up early in the morning. But It is not easy to get up early in the morning. I hate Monday mornings! Afterward, I walk to the bus station and I expect while I was walking is that fewer person is waiting at the bus stop .
However, with high expectation comes great disappointment for me..!!
In the bus stop was crowded with people! and I have to make desperate efforts to riding on the bus.

It was spring. The weather also should have been warm. However, it was somehow gloomy and chilly. Dark sky seemed to threaten rain any moment. To stand a strong wind, I fastened up my brown coat and started to walk at a quickstep. I finally arrived at Starbucks and the woman in the green logo greeted me again today. Even though I knew that he was going to come here in 10 minutes, I decided to order before he comes. I glanced at the menu for a while. I felt like I need a cup of coffee with some sweet syrup to cheer myself up so I ordered Grande sized vanilla latte. When I took a sip of it, I could feel smooth and rich milk foam. Bitterness of espresso, mildness of milk and sweetness of vanilla syrup were perfectly harmonized. This tasty hot liquid traveled down my throat and settled down my stomach. My entire body was filled with warmth. The wonderful aroma and sweet melody made me relaxed as if I had bathed in the hot springs. I might be addicted to this cozy feeling and that is why I often go to Starbucks and pay over five bucks to drink a cup of coffee.

    Waking up in the morning

As soon as I heard alarm bell, I turned off the alarm very quickly, and I was thinking to go to school or not. If i decided to go to school, I set the alarm again to ring 10 minutes later, and fall asleep again. I knew I would wake up finally, but can’t wake up right after the first alarm went off.
After waking up, I picked up some clothes which I would wear on that day, and put them on my bed. After that, I went to bathroom immediately and took a shower while my mother mad breakfast for me. Finishing to take a shower, I just wrapped my hair with towel, wore clothes, and had a breakfast.
Afterwards, I checked bus timetable, and started to put on makeup. If i didn’t have time to get on a bus, I wore light makeup because making myself up took much time.
Checked all the things like a homework, a bus card, or smartphone, and chose shoes which went well with my dress.
Before leaving home, I pushed elevator’s button, looked into a mirror to check my appearance, turned my MP3 on. I breathed deeply after getting out of my home, and trotted not to miss a bus, and then my hectic day was started.

It happened one morning. I couldn’t wake up from bad hangover because of the party last night. So, I was half asleep and was lying in my bed. But, suddenly I had a strange feeling. Specifically, I felt wet in the bottom of my bed. At the moment, I thought that ‘Didn’t I wet the bed? That’s ridiculous!’ I touched my pants instantly, but there was nothing wrong with my pants. What the hell was going on! Just then my puppy lying next to me caught my eyes. On second thought, I didn’t walk my puppy the day before. In other word, my puppy didn’t hold his bladder so that he had a piss in my bed. As soon as I realized that, I said “Oh my god!” Finally, I had to wash the blanket that my puppy had wet, while I thought I was glad that I didn’t wet my bed.

I was in music class waiting my turn to get test that play a Danso(korean traditional flute). It was right after lunch time so i was very sleepy. And i was also kind of nervous but i didn’t worry about it because i knew i’m good at play it. Finally my teacher called my name and i entered in the test room. There were my teacher and other two students wating for their turn. i sat on chiar and was watching that others play the instrument. They did pretty good job but i thought “i’m the best”. During waiting my turn, i fell a sleep for a while. I was waken by being called my name, and i started to play the instrument. At right that time, my voice was cracked so the sound of my instrument was very weird like a piercing shriek. Everyone in the room was starting to laugh at me. The situation made me look funny. I was very embarrassed and shocked so i stopped to blow it and I hung my head in shame. For this reason, i got C in the test.

I always have a class at 9 o’clock. But I can go to class even if I wake up at 8 o’clock. Because I live in woojungwon dormitory now. So I set the alarm of my smart phone for 8 0’clock at all times. Unfortunately, I know it is useless because of my roommate. He is my friend.
My friend got up at 7:30. He went to the bathroom. At the moment, I couldn’t sleep any more.
He started to take a shower and listen to music. In addition, he sang the song. I thought I want to sleep more please. When he came out the bathroom, I went into the bathroom. And when I came out, he already disappeared. I sat absent-mindedly in the bed for several minutes. I just wanted very little sleep at that time.

When the door open, I come out and pass the apartment front door. Then, I turn my body to the left and walk forward for 10 minutes. When I reach the crosswalk, I wait until changing to green light from red light. After waiting signal, I cross the street at a crosswalk. I walk leftwardly and I arrive main gate of my school. Next, I walk for 5 minutes. I go up to the stairs and twist my body to the right. I start down the hallway. And I walk up the stairs to the third floor. When I twist my body, I can see classroom 408 immediately. I enter classroom and move desk to blackboard side. And then, I seat on the chair.

It was cool autumn Saturday in the last year. I was an soldier on a vacation. One day, drummer of our band called me and say “Let’s hit the bottle tonight.” I agreed with that and he added “bring your guitar.” carring my guitar to the liquor store? I thought that’s little weired, so I asked him why then he said “Don’t ask me why. Just bring it.”

Anyhow I brought my guitar to the appointment site. Watching me, Many friends were surprised and asked me why I took my guitar there. I couldn’t anwer exactly cause actually I really didn’t know why. Finally, our drummer came to the pub. We all are embarrassed at his appearance. He was carrying his percussive stuffs. All friends said “Are you two guys come here for a drink or play?” then He answered “ Both of them.”

We drank so much and without our awareness, time went by It became 3 in the morning. We were about to go back home. Suddenly, drummer said “Let’s go outside and play the music!” It sounded like insane. He seems like didn’t know that we were druken. Although I drank much, I felt shy to play the guitar on the road. But he hauled me up outside.

I was so reluctant to play guitar at first time. But drummer started to play his djembe(percussion instrument). Strangely, that kind of joyful rhythm made me feel the same. So we started to play from korean pop songs to songs that composed on my own.

Unexpectedly As we were playing, people around us were getting together and enjoyed our music. We sang together and took some pictures. Even some of audience gave us some drink. I felt everyone there was bonded with music. At that moment I realized music really can make us one. It was beautiful night and I will never forget the day.

I’m recalling some pieces of advice which my friend gave me last night. From my friend, I heard that he loves Americano. Even though I really hate drinking coffee, I’m going to drink Americano without syrup. Haa… At last, he is coming. He looks a little different from the photo, but quite good.
After greeting each other, we went to coffee shop and I ordered two cups of Americano. The employee brought hot Americanos and we talked each other drinking coffees. However, “Oh my god!”, I can’t explain what feel it is, but the taste of the coffee is awful. It tastes bitter and it seems like I am eating 99% cacao chocolate. Of course, he is enjoying it. He is enjoying mild scent of coffee bean with vapor. I try hard not to frown and concentrate my dating. I finally drank it all and I swore myself that I will never drink this again. After the dating, I was exhausted. It was the toughest day in my life. Thanks to enduring short time of pain, it was good date and I’m falling love with him.

A bright beam forces its way into the seams of my eyes. “Is it really that day already?” I sigh to myself. I’ve always knew this day would come just not TODAY. I try to delay my time under my covers, feeling safe and unharmed from the terrifying day that awaits me. Almost on cue, my mother shakes me awake and I get to me feet, unwillingly. Walking to the school, I let my feet drag, making dirt marks on my conspicuously new sneakers. “I don’t want to go” I helplessly think waiting for some kind of natural disaster, but the sun shines almost too eagerly, so I keep on going. I go the the principal’s office first, due to my special condition, which is not being able to communicate in this country’s language. After a couple words, uncomprehensible, I’m sent to my class where I’ll surely be ridiculed. I walk with a teacher along the seemingly endless hall and finally arrive in front of the classroom. 3-1. I’m just a kid. I shouldn’t be going through this, I think bitterly. Take a deep breath. Now walk in. About 30 pairs of curious eyes examine me. It feels like they can see me through my very existence. I shuffle my feet nervously. “something, something, introduce yourself, something…” the teacher says. I don’t understand, but maybe I should introduce myself…? “….My name is…” I start to speak in english. “English!” a child shrieks, cutting my awkward introduction short. A moment of complete silence then follows. I look up, a boy is pointing at me, his jaw dropped down, completely awed. More kids laugh and smile and start talking excitedly. I’m still shaky by the aftermath of all the attention, but something tells me that today won’t be such a bad day after all.

Doing domething with a musical instrument.

I had a experience which would not be removed from my head in entire life. When I was 17, a highschool freshman, I was so fascinated by metal musics. I always dreamed that it would be awesome if I played these music myself. At that time, I saw a advertisement paper on the wall about recruiting member of band.

I had played drum two years from the church, so I had confidance that I could give some contribution to the band. I was welcomed from seniors, and I enjoyed it and band life. But truth is that a band is not something to do on my own, and I met some trouble soon.

My band mates and I had many disagreements on choosing music genre and arrangement, especially base-playing guy ‘jung-won’. Jung-won always wanted to play japanese rock music and didn’t listen any other kinds of musics and opinions. It seemed endless squabble so that the band would be destroyed.

But we got agreement by talking with drinking a couple of alcohols (Sorry sir, sorry mom and dad). We talked a lot about the way of seeing music and we finally got the poiot that we should respect each others’.

After rough time, practicing was preceeded very fast and so well like bulldozer. At last, we performed with another competitors at the school festival, and we got first prize. It was golden time to realize that there is great power when we work together with full trust. It’s a experience what everybody should feel.

Why I mentioned about drumming in church is that I knew how to play drum. There were no place playing drum in group except church…

I realise that. But what I’m curious about is how did you change from drumming in church to drumming in a rock band. I think there are very big differences.

A week ago today, on a sunny and warm day me and a friend of mine were really eager to go somewhere far away from here to enjoy spring. However, unfortunately, we couldn’t afford that because we had a couple of classes to take. But it occurred to us that there is a relatively big lake nearby our college. We decided to go there to relax by enjoying the views and walking. The lake located around five hundred meters away from the college of Art and Design. It was not so easy to find it but anyhow we got there as we planned. Honestly, I didn’t expect the lake to be that beautiful. Unlike what I anticipated the view of the lake was very nice, way prettier than normal one. Facing the waterside, I looked over the
surroundings of the lake on the top of the hill. The other side of the river there were some mountains. And on the left side of it there were houses and field of grains. Several dogs were barking in front of a restaurant located on the right side of the river. The breeze made me feel-good. This place was so peaceful and calm that I could release my stress.

The reason why I always wearing a hat is I’ve got 9 am classes on Mon – Thu that drove me crazy. I haven’t studied english(also the other academic subjects) for nearly 3 years, so this semester is pretty challenging to me. Luckily I live pretty close to KHU it only takes 40~50 minutes by bus. There are 2 kinds of bus, first one is 2000 won bus with comfy chairs and the other is 1000 won but smaller bus. I prefer 1000 won bus with its price, caculating a week I can save 10000 won and this bus arrives usually 7 : 45 am , I usually get up at 7am means I’ve got on ly 30~40 minutes to prepare everything and I found that in 40 minutes I could take shower ,brush my teeth and be done other my private thing ,however it is too short time to do my hair ,but I don’t want to wake up earier than usual. Someone might think I’a lazy and selfish ,woth those who got that ideas I’m asking you to consider that I haven’t studied for 3 years because of my private situation, and this is the time I’m trying to fit in KHU so can you please don’t argue with my hat please???

“Well, you are winner.” I’m drinking water and stretching my arms. And, I start to consider with those of two choices between having a breakfast and going to bed again. It’s 7:30, so I decide to go back to bed until 8:20. The sweet voice girl wake me up again. I’m climbing down the ladder from my bed. I don’t like it, because the ladder was made of steal and it is so cold. Then, I’m going to take a shower for 10 minutes. What kind of clothes should I wear today? Where is my socks? Where is my bag? I struggle with this problem everyday. It is 8:40, now I’m going to have a breakfast. I’m rushing to the dormitory cafeteria but, there are many students who have a idea same as me. I got my breakfast and finish it for 10 minute. There is just one thing what I have to overcome that is a lot of stairs.

I felt as if I were not in the ground. As soon as I got the spot point of Grand canyon, I run to the place where people got together to see the great nature. I thought I was just watching some pictures. Even though I was walking the ways with the views, it didn’t looks like the real shape. Even though I was taking some pictures, it still looked like a picture. I couldn’t believe what I saw because it was a great present from nature! Grand canyon was too giant and beautiful to imagine it. It has lots of colors like the blue, blown, green from sea, trees and so on. Especially the part from erosion active was an impressive scene. When the darks came in, I just had to forgive to see it. If it still had the light, I might not leave there. I’ll never forget the magnificent view.

Morning shower is my favorite and it really does help me wake up. Its 8:20 and we rushed down to the first floor with a hot cup of coffee on our hands. When I get to the first floor, Gom wages her tail saying good morning. My sister and I get in the car to get to school and everyday is a battle. After 20 minutes of my sister’s speed. In the monday morning, I left home at seven.
    Now the war begins!

Afterward, I walk to the bus station and I expect while
I was walking is that fewer person is waiting at the bus stop .

However, with high expectation comes great disappointment for me.

In the bus stop was crowded with people! and I have to make desperate efforts to riding on the bus.
In the bus, my body was pressing against peoples.
And I had to stand almost all the bus’s route.

For that reason, my leg is very tired when getting off the bus,
but I must get go to the class room.

My tired leg climbed up the stairs as I go to the class room.
Finally, I reached the class room and I sat in a chair.
Start with this situations, my monday morning was started.

‘Oh. This is not a good start of today.’ I mumbled quietly. Unfortunately, three awful disasters occurred simultaneously to me and I didn’t know how to handle them at all. Someone may think that they were nothing to worry about at all after listening what the disasters were. However, they mattered a lot to me at that time.
The day before the awful day with the disasters, I went for a walk to Sin-gal lake with my friend. The road that led to the lake was paved with pebbles and I had a really hard time walking on the road because I was wearing worn-out sneakers. The pebbles torn my sneakers more and the backside of one of my sneakers got splitted horribly.
‘Oh, no. What am I going to wear tomorrow? People will see my sneakers and sneer at them.’ I thought in despair. I am a self-boarding student and my house is really far from my school. Therefore it was impossible for me to bring another pair of sneakers. I didn’t have any choices but to wear them even though they were miserably worn-out. This was the first disaster.
I became exhausted after taking a walk but I couldn’t go to bed early because I had things to do. Next morning, I was so tired and feel like fainting away. This was the second disaster. I usually prefer to sit in the front row of my classroom. but I couldn’t even think about it that day.
I’m sure many girls recognize the fact that when we, girls, don’t get enough sleep, our make-up doesn’t blend in well. Since I didn’t get much sleep I had cakey makeup on. My face was so white that its color didn’t match with the color of my neck. It was awful. This was the third disaster of that day.
I struggled with these disasters. I definitely needed to avoid sitting in the front row so I made up my mind to sit in the last row of the right corner, right next to the back door. I was really relieved that no one was going to laugh at my ragged sneakers and the distinct boundary between my face and neck. Finally I could rest in my shelter with a great relief. What a wonderful day it was!

Every Thursday, the day is pretty exhausting for me. The reason is that I take 4 classes for my major, and especially I should attend 3 classes without a break. Because of this, I have no time to eat lunch on time. So I used to eat just bread, juice, and something like that.
As usual, after taking 3 classes, only a 1 class was left on last Thursday. On that day, when walking to the classroom, I felt like not attending the class. With my pace flagging, I eventually came into the classroom on exact time with a long face. As time passed and passed, however, a professor did not come. I felt that everyone including me wanted the class to be canceled. Waiting and waiting, it was then that a student told other students,” The class was canceled today!”. OMG!! I was so excited to hear that. With light steps, I went home and slept sweetly. What a lucky day 🙂

I look around my room to find blurry desk, computer, and my bookcase in a dark setting. To see the world more clearly, I reach out my hand to the night stand to find my glasses. As I slowly put on my glasses, tired as any college student can be, the world opens up around me. But I don’t actually look around for I know it’s my room and that it is the same as the night before. Like a zombie, I drag my feet to the bathroom to get washed up. I check my phone and see that it’s Tuesday and I only have forty minutes before I have to leave the house to go to school. And that’s when I’m fully awake from my sleep, my eyes wide open, heart pounding, and without any conscious command, my hands move faster than before to get me out the door by 7am to attend my 9am class.

    *Waking up in the morning.

My cell phone alarm was going off.

The music was Chris Brown’s Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.

“YEAH?” I thought ‘Are you kidding me? I’m not in the mood to say YEAH.’

Although I love this music when I walk on the street or go to school, I hate this music the most in every morning.

It really gets me every morning.

And million thoughs raced through my mind.

Oh…. Should I wake up now? or just sleep five more minutes?

And just as I was sleeping more, Conor’s face came to my mind.

I said to my self. Oh, No! Don’t do that. Wake up now! It’s monday morning!!!

And that thought opened my eyes.

So, I can’t get out of my cozy warm bed easily. I stay with my eyes closed again, buring myself deeply into bedclothes. ‘It is another morning.’, I contemplate. And then, my consciousness begins to slow down. For a few minutes, I don’t remember what I was thinking. Maybe I fell asleep for a while again. I hear the second and the third alams ring one after another, still between asleep and awake. “Drrr..” It’s 6:30 a.m. now. It is an ultimatum. I can’t linger in bed any longer. standing on a viewpoint and looking around

When I was 18 years old, one day before the spring came, my parents asked me to climb a mountain together. There is a mountain called ‘앞산’ in front of my home. Actually I enjoy to exercise, but climbing a mountain is one of the exception because it needs more power especially so it always makes me exzausted. Even, my father wanted to go on a top of the mountain. I said no but my mother persuaded me. “If you come along with us, I’ll buy what you want.”
Because of this saying, I changed my mind. We climbed a mountain about 3 hours for the top. I really wanted to come down, but there is no escape. I sweated like a person who got the rain. It was like a hell. However, near the top of the mountain, my heart ran faster and I felt something strange. It’s not bad meaning. when I got on the top of the mountain, I could see the whole my hometown. I felt like a king. “I am a king of the world!” It’s thrilled to go on the top. After coming down the mountain, I ate bulgogi with my parent. That day, I had not only a strange but nice feeling, but also what I want.

There are times when my daily routine seems relatively tedious. Breakfast, uni, lunch, uni, dinner then home. Boring! Meeting same people, going to same places hardly gives any flavour to my life. During that kind of phase of life, I easily think, ‘I wish I was somewhere else… anywhere but out of this boredom!’ If I’m lucky enough I would ask some of the friends who’s free and able to drive to bring his or her car and take me somewhere. If that happens, I start to get excited to choose a destination. Usually, I would choose to go to a nearby park or a beach. Which would take about 30 mins to an hour depending on where we’re going. After a short drive, we would arrive at… let’s say, a beach! First thing you do when you reach your destination… is to take pictures! Smiling in front of the camera is an instinctive reaction for most people. Despite their true feelings inside, somehow people smile. Maybe it’s because they want to look like they’re happy and having the best time of their life in a photo. Looking around at its scenery, taking pictures. All very relaxed, without any worries. Taking deep breath to breathe in some fresh air. Boundless, clear blue waters… Just standing in front of it quietly, in an awe of its beauty saying ‘wow……wow…’ After spending few hours of looking around, I make my way back home then I arrive home, yet still satisfied about the fact that I was away from being in a boring daily routine.

For me, every morning is a kind of war. I’m getting quite a bit busy since this semestar started because I should prepare for job hunting and work for a part time job at the same time. At nights, I set the alarm for 30 minutes ahead of the time I expect to wake up before going to bed. As the alarm starts to ring, I’m getting afraid that A Day comes again and I’ve got what I have to do in a day, and I debate to get out of the great impulse to skip the classes and to sleep late. After I struggle with the untiring alarm, I jump out of the bed, get down for the ladder, go to the bathroom, and splash water on my face. And thinking, ‘I have to wash my hair, have a breakfast, stop by the department(the places I stop by change everyday). How can I do those in a short time before managing to arrive at the class, efficiently!?’. Then, I make a plan for that and just do it! If some people could see me at this time, people would think that I’m a robot. My hands have no time to rest. Finally, I snatch the key for the room, kick a door open, I run 500M finish line panting hard.

I really long for the cherryblossoms to bloom, because it’s my favourite. My roommate and I always talk if we wear the right clothes depending on the weather. We sometimes meet friends who already finish the class. My roommate has to wait for the bus to go to the classroom, so she always envies me taking class in the university of foreign languages. There is always lone line in front of the bus stop, because many students have to take the bus. Usually I wait for the bus for my roommate, becase we leave our home earlier for her. After she gets on the bus, I go to the cafeteria to buy some drinks. I usually take coffee milk. Songs flowed from my earphones make my feeling more better. Then I head for the classroom. It’s a quiet and fresh morning~

    -waking up in the morning

I saw my friends and family is gone. “ta lalala~ ” While I just moved to another place, I was woken by the bell of alarm melody of my cellphone. It was 5 o’clock by the cellpnhone. Darkness still falled and everything was quiet outside the home. I thought everyone sleeps so I want to sleep some more. I fiddled my cellphone agonizing about setting the alarm ten minutes later. Moreover I felt unwell. It makes my worry bigger. I was lost in thought for a moment looking out of window. I cried ” I have to go school in a fresh condition. ” I jumped out of bed and plodded to the bathroom. After I passed the water, went to the kitchen to drink a cup of cold water. Drinking water, I stretched. Oh, I started a new day!

I was standing on the middle of road and watching her back as she walked away while it was drizzling. I got wet in the rain and thoroughly felt miserable. she had said nothing to me and instantly left me, even if I had shouted her name more than thousand times. Nothing has been changed. I looked for a cafe and climbed up the spiral stair case to the second floor to calm down and make me feel better. On the table, a cup of coffee, some tissue, and my precious iphone which had no idea to ring. A woman who was neatly dressed was about to make Americano that it gave out rich and luxurious scent reached around me. Bright lights and atmospheric music made me comfortable in harmony with its aura, meanwhile, a couple of people were chatting each other. I managed to ignore them because they wouldn’t have comforted me. I looked at the window which has drawn paintings that its winter themes with a crayon. When I looked out over the window, there were many people who walked to somewhere quickly, waited for someone, got on the bus in disorder as usual, put the cigarette butts out on the ground, and jaywalked across the eight-lane road. The white magnificent marble in the shape of an arch that seems to glow by spotlights that is standing.

Of course, I like that maintain good relationship with father. but that have a strong infulence on morning. In the same manner, I get up late this morning and late to my first morning class. But usually I used to take about 40 minutes to be ready to go a class. At the short time, I thought saying that time and tide wait for no man and hurried up only for the morning class. I taken a shower with brushing my teeth and shapooing my hair. At the end of such a process, I reached my universary but I didn’t make up my face that is important to women. However, I was satisfied about my speed and went to my class. At that time, I heared shamed and amazing thing from my friend. I wore a short skirt but with hanging some toilet paper. Of all occasion, I wore black stockings and it maked black stockings and white toilet paper too noticeable. As soon as i heared, I hid my face in shame. What a shame the moment it is!

I open my eyes. I am in my dormitory.
I have no memories about how I came to my room yesterday night.
I just remember that I drunk alcohol in some place with my friends.
I feel like I got a time travel. Everything is because I drunk so much alcohol last night so I completely drunken. Actually , after I got up, it is hard to distinguish dream form reality.
    I make a promise that ‘ I will not drink alcohol anymore ! ‘ .
But I know it’s just a promise with myself.
I know that I have to wake up and go to bathroom for shower and then go to my class.
But I just lie on my bed continuously.
Eventually, I run to my classroom and I barely attend my class or little bit late for the class.

One day last week, there was the noisy and annoying bell of alarm clock and my mother shouted “wake-up!!!!!!!!”
I reluctantly woke up in the morning as usual so as not to be late for the first class.
I looked at the wall clock in my room and I still had time to ready to go to school.
As usual, I go to the bathroom and unhurriedly take a shower.
But soon I was shocked when I saw the clock in the bathroom.
The clock directed an hour later than I saw in my room!!!!!!
Yes!!! I mistook the time in my sleep. I was very embarrassed by my mistake.
“Oh my God, how could such a thing happen! “ I was so irritated!!!! Ah!!!!!!!
As soon as I realized that I was late, I moved at the speed of light.
Rinsed the soap out of my body, dried my hair, put on cosmetics and wore any clothes.
I went out hurriedly and ran to the bus stop at full speed.
Fortunately, the bus to our university came soon.
I worried about a lot of traffic but luckily I could arrive on time.
Whew…..ㅠㅠ At first, I was so upset with my mistake but soon I felt relieved.
I resolved that I would not let it happen again. It was a hard and manic day.

This unforgettable event happened when I was 12 years old on trip to Australia. I went to county town where my friend Emily`s grandmother lived. Her grandmother gave me handmade cookies which was very delicious. We talked affectionately. When the night came, we decided to go back our home. Leaving the Emily`s grandmother`s home, I saw the night sky. Then, I couldn`t believe my eyes. The scenery was breathtaking. There were billions of shining stars in a deep blue sky! Stars were really huge, clear, and numerous. I was unable to take my eyes off. It was so beautiful! It looked like an embroidered black carpet. The scene was imprinted on my memory. I never saw that gorgeous night sky before because I lived in the capital my entire life. Even these days, I often stare the night sky and recall that incredible memory.

The alarm rang continuosly. I didn’t want to leave from the soft bed and pillow. I tried to close my ears with pillow, but that didn’t work. Then, I checked my phone, but the bell was not mine. I stretched my arms, and picked up my roommate’s phone and turned it off. I woke up and then took a shower. After the shower, the alarm rang again! My roommate set several alarms with her phone. However she never woke up, so I turned it off several times. That was really stressful thing to me. Anyway, I came out from the room, and took a bus to go to school. I was really sleepy, so I asked for sleep in the bus. At that time, the alarm rang again! It was exactly same bell with my roommate’s! It was a man’s phone ring. At that day, I couldn’t sleep all day because of that same bell.

It was last monday. I got up with the terrible sound of alarm clock as usual. After rubbing my eyes, I rolled out of my bed, and went to the kitchen. However, the hands of clock in kitchen were telling me it’s 7o’clock. I set up my alarm clock to ring at 6:30 last noght, but it was 7!! My 30 minutes were vanished!!! In a hurry, I had my breakfast with tasteless cereal and went to bathroom to wash. A huge window takes up the one side of walls in my home’s bathroom. Although it’s spring, the bathroom was still too cold. Giving up to take a shower, I turned on the hot water to brush my teeth. “Bang!!!!!!!!!!” Suddenly, awfully hot water gushed out of the pipe under the sink with such a big sound. The pipe was broken because of the cold weather and the hot water. I didn’t get burned fortunately, but I had to wash with ice-cold water. It was a gloomy monday.

Today’s weather was really awesome. But,actually, I didn’t have any place to go, so I decided to go to cafe and study with coffee alone. I seemed free and relaxed. At first, I could concentrated on my work for a while. I made a schedule for next week, read book and talked with my friend on the phone. It was good. But, after hanging up the phone, suddenly, people around me jumped to my eyes. Almost all of the people in the cafe are couple..^^….And then, I observed them one by one. The first couple looked young. The girl seemed full of charms and the boy was also cute. The second couple looked really bored. They didn’t have a talk though. They were just looking at their phones. I think they must’ve argued together. The third couple was the best couple I ve seen today. They had a big smile on their faces. They didn’t do something special. They just talked each other. i was envious them T_T. I felt so lonely that I stopped to looking around people and packed my back. On my way home, the weather was still pretty.

The next thing I saw after opened my eyes was the paler figure of Rosenberg. Litigation was the key part of the scene. I shut my eyes again, then saw a wooden electric chair. Pretty sure was I chased by the agents, shouting I was not guilty. When they finally had me captured, I thrashed about. Literally, I thrashed and fell down to the floor. I scratched my head, “Darn, DVD player.” Totally forgot to switch off the night before, “American Justice” has been repeating over three times, intermingling the cold dawn and dream. In oblivion of the first class of school starting in 30 minutes, finally realized I that I was indeed guilty. “Bejesus, I haven’t finished my movie report!” By that time I was not able to handle legal and political terminologies that I could not figure out the whole storyline. I wished I had rather been electrocuted on that chair with Rosenberg than going to the class with unfinished assignment.

In passage many people are walking to me. And they pass me. Also Many people are following me. My eyes are really busy. I turn away my eyes from other’s sight. I try to do not see other’s eye to avoid embrassed seconds. So, I use my cellphone often. I jsut look down and see only my cellphone’s screen. Or I look around the upper side of the wall to find my classroom number. When I find my classroom. I choose my seat and see only that chair. I never look around class to do not meet other’s eyes. After sit down my chair, usually my chair is the back side of class, I look arond classroom. Who is in the class, Who is not.
