On our blog posting assignment…

May 14, 2012

Well done to everyone who managed to complete this week’s assignment on time. I think it was challenging, but from what I can see everyone did their best and that is the most important thing.

Myself and Todd have very different demands and aspirations for our classes, but we both see the blog as a great opportunity for us to give you the chance to really present your writing in the ultimate testing ground, which is the public sphere. While your fellow students may not be a huge audience, it is a considerably more diverse audience than your usual class-time readership, which is essentially myself or Todd.

Everyone who writes, writes to be read and the blog here is an essential tool in showing you the importance of understanding the need to present satisfactory written material all the time.

I think that the last post was difficult as it had very different requirements than before. You were asked to write a lot more than previously and within a short time period, and there was a certain amount of independent research required. These are essential skills for writing that every professional writer, and even a person who must write regularly in their job, must use all the time. Trying to find an interesting and unique topic that fits within the parameters of a particular subject is always challenging.

For all of you who managed to complete the task, I think that you can all be proud of yourself. That goes for this post, but also for every post previous to this.

All that being said, I must reiterate a few simple things. I would suggest that you follow these instructions for more than your blogging assignment:

Always read and follow the instructions carefully.

The links provided are just there to give you ideas and information to supplement your own thoughts and opinions, so try not to regurgitate what you read from a link we provide.

The earlier you read the assignment, the earlier you can start to prepare, which will make it all a lot easier.
