CRW2 The Last Meal

March 31, 2016

Well, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that a large asteroid is headed straight towards the Earth. All life as we know it will cease to exist by next Tuesday. The good news: no homework next week (unless unluckily, the asteroid doesn’t strike). As such, this week’s assignment is to determine what to eat for your very last meal before the asteroid hits. You do not have to worry  about overeating, too many calories, too much sugar and salt, or not fitting into your favorite pair of jeans. Just open wide and enjoy.

Students: Describe your last meal and, if possible, post a picture or a link to one. Why would you choose this meal?

This would be my last meal. It is a typical summertime meal I often enjoy with family, particularly on Sundays. The meal reminds me of the many great meals I have had with my family members. My grandmother passed away a few years ago and we can never have this kind of big family get-together meal without thinking of her and wishing she was there with us. Anyways, the meal starts with fresh rolls and butter. Then comes a steaming bowl of muscles and savory seafood chowder with fish, farm-raised mussels, clams, potatoes, celery, etc. Once the chowder is finished, the main dish – a large Atlantic lobster – is served, either hot or cold, depending on one’s preference. Served with the lobster is creamy potato salad and fresh uncooked vegetable like carrots and green beans. If there is still room for desert (and there always is room, right?), diners have a choice of pie (strawberry, blueberry, lemon maringue), cake, sweets, fresh fruit, and ice cream. And one wonders why some Canadians are so fa…I mean big. So if a giant asteroid is going to destroy all humankind in just a few days, I say, “Give me a fork and napkin,” and don’t talk to me for at least an hour ’cause my mouth will be busy. Bon appetit!

By the way, our local cuisine helped P.E.I to be named one of the best food spots in the world.

I can’t decide just one cuisine for my last meal. Thus, I’ll begin with appetizer. First, there is a salad with fried crispy chicken. Lettuce, chicory, paprika and tomatoes should be fresh and well chopped. Then, I’ll try roasted mackerel. Because I like Magnolia(a restaurant located in Woojungwon)’s roasted mackerel most, I’ll order it. Since professor said that I don’t have to worry about overeating, I’ll continue. The next one is samgyeopsal. Golden brown pork and hot doenjan jjigae(Soybean Paste Stew) would be perfect. Of course, I can’t miss Steamed Egg in a Hot Pot. Now, I am ready for some dessert. I’ll start from a piece of chocolate cake, cheese cake and blueberry yogurt cake. Then, I’ll drink iced tea and try some pies, such apple pie, raspberry pie and lemon pie. Finally, I’ll finish my meal with sulbing’s strawberry bingsu(shaved ice). I feel excited just to think about it. I know huge asteroid is coming and going to destroy everything, but who cares? For me, the most important thing is my lovely, delicious meal.

The food that I want to eat before I die is chicken and chicken and also chicken. I think chicken is the most perfect food in the world. It is cheaper than any other meats but it has good taste as much as pork and beef. I haven’t eaten enough chicken throughout entire my life because like I said before, I was athelte, So I had to lose weight for my match. After I retired my athelte career, I had worked as a fitness trainer until Feb 2,2016. I’m always thinking about eating chicken except when I am in class. Umh… actually somethimes I was thinking about it while I was in class. 😀 So, if the earth will be smashed into atoms, I will eat all kind of chickens in the world without any other worries. http://cafe.naver.com/toggame/18430

I like eating, I’m generous with types of foods, and I just can’t help loving pastas and noodles. Harmony of pastas and noodles with diverse sauces and toppings like meats and mushrooms makes me love them. I’ll first start with cream spaghetti, as it is mild enough to not interrupt my tongue for next spicier foods. Then, a bowl of Japanese pork ramen, my favorite Japanese food, will awake my taste by its saltiness. After eating ramen, I will eat lasagnas of various ingredients over and over until I get sick of them, as there’s no time to lament for exploding calories. To awake my bored tongue, the next noodle will be boiling, magma-spicy Korean ramen cooked in strong fire. After I eat all of these, I will eat cool and spicy bibimnaengmyun, and shower down my throat with moolnaenmyun. All these foods are quite common, but I’m really fond of them. Expensive, rare foods can’t always beat the common foods in someone’s tastes.

    (Pictures of my mom’s dishes)

For me, all my mom’s meals are the best foods in the world. As the pictures I’ve attached represents, my mom is the greatest cook than any other cooks. Especially among them, braised Kimchi and Braised Mackerel are the best. Everytime I get stressed with all the stuffs, I just imagine the meals mom prepares for me when I go home. So when the end of the world comes, I will beg mom to cook every food as much as she can. 🙂
However, if the asteroid grants my wish(which is to eat my mom’s meals for more years) and heads off the collision with the Earth, I’ll learn the recipes of the dishes from mom to enjoy cooking and eating myself. But of course, I know that even I try my best, it will be hard to mimic the taste of mom’s meals perfectly. haha.

My last meal would be at a restaurant in front of the beach. Looking at the ocean view, I want to have brunch with my boyfriend. Because tastes of foods vary depends on where to eat and who I eat with. First, I would eat a lot of fluffy pancakes with sweet maple syrup and it would go well with fresh fruit juice like strawberry, blueberry, banana, kiwi or mix of them. Then, I want to have something spicy and salty. Usually I would go for something hot or salty after eating something sweet. The next food is stir-fried Octopus with Korean spicy source. Once I start to eat it, I can’t stop eating even though it makes my tongue hurt. After finishing that hot food, I have to eat something sweet again to relieve the pain of my tongue. So it’s a kind of endless cycle of eating: having something sweet and something salty and then something sweet again and going on to salty foods… The last foods are various kind of desserts: pieces of strawberry cheesecake, lemon tart, chocolate cake, macaroons and cups of iced Americano, caffe latte with vanilla powder. I’m so into desserts that I will eat all of desserts in the world before a giant asteroid is going to destroy the Earth. However, I would find myself looking for salty foods like chicken, pizza or hamburger again to get my tongue satisfied and finally, I would face the end of the Earth just eating and eating.

For my last meal, I want to eat something I have never tried before but can be confident that it is tasty and mouthwatering such as meat. Recently I saw a huge steak and french fries on TV. Two comedians were eating them while traveling in Canada. It was Canadian food called a big steak and poutine. I almost got into the TV screen when I first spotted them. The size of the steak was bigger than the woman’s face and the french fries were covered with cheese and gravy sauce. Also they tried some smoked mushrooms and grilled romaine. I was so curious about how this amazing combination would taste like. I just love eating steaks and french fries. If tomorrow is my last day, I will pick up the big steak in one hand and on my other hand, I am going to spear cheesy french fries with my fork!

What I am going to eat before the asteroid hits is Tteokbokki. Tteokbokki is a stir-fried Korean food made with sliced rice cake, fish cake and red pepper paste. Some people add vegetables such as cabbage or onion in Tteokbokki. It tastes spicy but sweet. The first reason why I chose Tteokbokki for my very last meal is that it has been my soul food since I was an elementary school student. After the school finished, I dropped by a small sack stand in front of my school and had a cup of Tteokbokki with my friends for only 500won. It is a cherishable memory, so I cannot still forget the taste of Tteokbokki there. Next, Tteokbokki is not only my soul food, but also my favorite food of all. I like all kinds of Tteokbokki. For instance, cheese Tteokbokki is needless to say, and soy sauce Tteokbokki with bulgogi is also mouthwatering. I hope someone would serve me a plate of Tteokbokki for my perfect last meal.

What would you imagine when you see a red meet on the black stone? Pork belly? or beef?
When I see that, “Fukuoka Hamburger steak” comes to my mind. Lotte World Mall is the first place where I ate this hamburger steak. However, there is not the original place of Fukuoka Hamburger steak; it originated from Fukuoka in Japan. It was popular in Japan, and someone who interested in this food starts up “Fukuoka Hamburger steak” store in Korea.
If I would be died by any disaster, before the death, I really want to eat this hamburger steak which has special characteristics; various ways of eating and fresh ingredient.
“Fukuoka Hamburger steak” has lots of way to eat for each because it isn’t cooked perfectly by cook. Normally, when we go to the restaurant, we order the steak with baking time such as rare, well-done and medium. However, in this restaurant, “Fukuoka Hamburger”, a beef loaf is served as uncooked therefore, we can control the baking time whatever we want. Moreover, the way to cook is so easy that even children can cook it; just put a beef on the hot black stone and wait until its color turns gray-brown then eat it.
It has not only lots of way to eat but also fresh ingredient, especially freshness of beef. This hamburger is made from Korean beef which is known as wonderful taste. Compared to other beef, it melts away in the mouth and its gravy is like a taste of sesame oil. It is the best what I have ever eaten. The time when I eat this food, I’m so happy that I can’t think any troubles in a moment. Therefore, if today is the last day of my life, I’m going to eat it which makes me blissful person without troubles.

While I was thinking about my very last meal, I visited a popular restaurant with my friends in Daegu. This is a same photo that I took yesterday, and I finally choose my last meal before the asteroid hits. It is “Char siu Salad Noodle.” To explain, it is a Japanese noodle with barbecued marinated pork and salad with perilla seed dressing. For topping, it has tomatoes, corns, nuts, and crispy cereal. For noodle, the restaurant use Japanese-style chewy noodle which is called ‘Udon.’ Marinated sauce of the barbecue is amazing that I have never eaten before. Also, that seed dressing on the top of the salad, I cannot explain more but it harmonizes best with the rest of the ingredients and mouthwatering. After I ate it, I realized why so much people is standing in front of the restaurant waiting for their order. Seriously, I will eat the noodle again before I die. 🙂

If I had my last meal, I would have this turkey sandwich and one cup of coffee. All I need is toasted French bread, fresh romaine lettuce, tomatoes and turkey breast meat. I usually make this turkey sandwich by myself sometimes, but I didn’t know how to make it before my boyfriend taught me the recipes. He also taught me a lot about American ingredients and cuisines while cooking together. However we made turkey sandwich the most time, because we both like turkey breast so much. While I heated the pan, he cut the French bread, lettuce and tomato in half. Then I placed the bread and several pieces of turkey breast on the heated pan, and he boiled the water to make coffee. The fragrance of dark coffee filled up the room and it was the start of the morning, because we usually made turkey sandwich in the morning. We put lettuce and sliced tomatoes on the bread with turkey breast, and holding sandwich with one hand while holding the cup of coffee with the other hand. Turkey sandwich and coffee are not luxurious or expensive food, but it always reminds me of tender love. I would face the last of the earth while crunching the turkey sandwich and sipping the dark coffee with warm love. Of course with my sweet heart, it can’t be better.

My last meal was western food buffet restaurant. When I go to buffet restaurant, I usually fill my first dish with food that tastes sour such as vegetable salad with kiwi dressing or fruits like grapefruit and orange, pineapple, because I read an article about a study that sour flavor make us stimulate our appetite. So, on my first dish of my last meal in the restaurant, there were vegetable salad with lemon dressing and some fruits like orange and mango. Then from the next dish, I started to eat my favorite food, for example cream pasta and spaghetti, pizza, lasagna, salmon salad so on. However, I did not have my favorite food all at once, because I feel my stomach full very early with high calorie food. In all kinds of the buffet restaurant, we have to have food strategically in order to eat a lot of food as much as possible. So, from the second dish I filled my dishes with my favorite food and some fruits or my favorite food and vegetable salad. Then, after I felt it was enough, I finished my last meal with a cup of coffee and a small piece of brownie. I had to go to the buffet restaurant on last Sunday since my coupon for the restaurant was available until last Sunday. Therefore I was able to have all food in the restaurant for free!!

If tomorrow is the last day of my life, I will pack my bag just now for going to my hometown and eating last meal with my family. My last meal is the home cooking made by my mother. First main dish is Pork and Kimchi Stew. Now I live in Seoul alone. I tried many times to make taste similar to mother’s. But I am no where close to her stew. The over-fermented Kimchi made by my mother draws deeper flavor. When I swallow stew, I feel like as my internal organs are relaxed. Also pork in stew melts softly in the mouth. Second is the Wild Vegetable Bibimbap. I like variable vegetables, warm rice and red-pepper paste. So Bibimbap is a optimum food for me. My mother makes seasoned vegetables for me with salt, sesame oil, ground sesame mixed with salt and special soy sauce made by her. And She grinds beef and put it in red-pepper paste. I can eat diverse foods through Bibimbap. Living alone, I always miss my family, hometown and mother’s food too much. Hence, I want to eat my last meal with family at home.

However, I would like to make my family’s last meal by myself for my mom working hard for me during her entire life. With my effort to satisfy her, we could enjoy delicious food with full of happiness and without any worries. Mother cooks it with so many mushroom, tofu and onion for me because they are my favorite Korean food ingredients. It tastes very good. I usually do not eat much however if only the soybean paste stew of mom, I eats at least two bowls of rice. My mother used to smile with happiness seeing clear hot pot and that is also my happiness. I think this is my soul food. I used to remind this food when I am being alone in my room. My visits to my parents are infrequent because my parent’s home is far away from my rented room. My the very last meal will be a Italian food: Spaghetti, pizza, and pasta.
Why I want to have such food is because I really like Italian food. Whenever I go to family restaurant, I would order a spaghetti. The taste of mixture of tomato paste and noodle, it is like a heaven. Pizza is also good. Thinner it is, crispier it gets. And thinner it is, more delicious it becomes.
Sometimes they become a good coursed meal. I will start my meal with creamy cheese pasta. And when my mouth gets cheesy, tomato spaghetti will remove the cheesiness and replace it with sweet and sour taste. With one bite – or maybe several bites – of a slice of pizza, my last meal would be finished.
And actually this course dish also has rich essential nutrient: carbohydrate, protein, and fat. Noodles and pizza dough has carbohydrate and toppings of pizza has protein. Also fat too! So, if you have one course of italian food, you can get essential nutrient at the same time.

I want to eat Rabokki as my last meal. It is my favorite foods and I am the person who could eat the meal 3 times a day. I really like foods made with white floor. It may account for about from 70 to 80 percent of all of my meal I have eaten in my lifetime. It is one of the most attractive foods to such a person who is a carbohydrate addiction, Because there are noodles and the rice cake in the meal and I could have 2 foods made with white floor at the same time. Moreover, I love something hot, in choosing something, I usually prefer warm or hot objects or foods than something cool and cold, even considering weather. This is because, when I have something hot or I am in the warm places, I feel like my body gets warm as well. Literally, something hot or warm means to me, being comfortable and calm. Lastly, I could relieve my stress by eating some spicy foods. If I face a situation all life will cease, I might be unstable and anxious. Then, I would reduce my uncomfortable feeling by having hot food such as Rabokki. Rabokki would be my last suffer because It has all the factors I like; being warm and spicy and being made of flour. So if a giant asteroid is coming tomorrow, I say, “I would eat Rabokki, my favorite food, instead of planting my apple tree.

Every Korean ought to be familiar with Kimbap. The main ingredients for Kimbap are rice and dried laver. On dried laver, we have to put boiled rice evenly and we can put any long sliced vegetable sticks or meat such as cucumber, carrot, beef, Pickled Radish, egg, and crab stick. After putting the ingredients, all we need to do is roll it carefully and cut into bite-sized pieces. The circles with various colors of ingredients fit perfectly for your spring picnics lunch box and also it is full of healthy nutrients. As mentioned above, its recipe is simple and it’s one of the most common, simplest meal in Korea. However, to me, Kimbap means a lot. The reason why I chose Kimbap for my last meal is that it involves my mother’s love toward me. Unfortunately, she passed away due to serious stomach cancer when I was 15 years old. One day, despite intolerable pain from chemotherapy, she stood it and made Kimbap for my school picnic. I cannot forget the saddest, but paradoxically the happiest moment in my life when I hugged my mom tightly. To recall the time we have been together, I will cook Kimbap based on my mom’s recipe and have the last delicious meal with my family.

My last meal would be a “Shake Shack Burger”. I had eaten the burger last winter when I went to Las Vegas. It was definitely the best burger I’d had. Coming back Korea, I always find pictures of the burger, which reminds me the taste and the atmosphere of the whole travel. That’s why I want to have Shake Shack Burger as my last meal in the Earth. If the asteroid is coming to the Earth, therefore, I would go America right away to eat the burgers. I’ll order double ShackBurger, smokeshack, shack stack which is a kind of cheeseburger, crinkle cut fries with cheese and strawberry shake! I’m planning to try all taste of the burgers because having a little money, I only ate ShackBurger and cheese fires when went America. Although it looks so much, I think I can eat all of them because it’s my real last meal. Recently, I heard the news that shake shack burger will be opened in Kangnam, Korea. So I wish the asteroid doesn’t come here until the store opens.

While I was thinking about my very last meal, I feel so bad. I will not exist in the earth and no longer see many people. Maybe, Even if I eat food I have never eaten with my family and friend, I can’t feel happy. So I want to eat the food which has the best memory. Last meal of my life is chicken. Chicken is my best friend and my favorite food. When I feel tired, I eat some chickens. This way of eating chicken always reduces my stressful mind and finally, I get to comfortable mind. Chicken has yellow face and smell is very good. Chicken recipe is very simple. Rinse the chicken under cold running water and blot them dry with paper towels, and fry the chicken until golden brown. When you want spicy chicken, you can make some sauce. I want to eat my last chicken with my family and friend. I often ordered bhc chicken to eat.
So the link of http://www.bhc.co.kr/should shows my favorite chicken brand.

My last meal would be all kinds of dessert such as macarons, piece cakes, puddings and chocolates. I really love sweet desserts, and one of the my hobbies is to search the famous dessert cafe. Recently, there are some buffets that offer various desserts like strawberry desserts buffet at walkerhill hotel, and bread buffet in Daegu. However, those kinds of sweet desserts are all high calories, also expensive. So, I can’t eat them frequently.
For my last meal, I don’t have to worry about high calories, high costs, and high dangerousness about obesity and diabetes. I just can enjoy it. So, If the earth will destroy tommorow, today is a great chance to go to dessert buffet and to try many kinds of the sweet desserts!

One of the most enjoyable things among I have done in the earth is having delicious food. Therefore, in my last day before asteroid hits the earth I will be confused and so sad because of the fact that this is the last meal and I have to say good bye to foods I used to love. Anyway, after serious considering, I choose the Korean ribeye barbecue as my last meal. I think there are two kinds of people that who don’t eat meat and who love meat. So I am included in later one. Among many kinds of meats such as pork, chicken, lamb, and etc., the most tasty and juicy meat is ribeye especially Korean ribeye as I think. When I had had it first time, I fell in love with it. It was melted on my tongue before chewing. So in the last day before earth will be gone, I will prepare a lot of Korean ribeye and barbecue it on hibachi which means grill with roasting charcoal. Also various side dishes are essential to enjoy Korean ribeye properly such as seasoned lettuce, various vegetables, and Kimch. Although it makes me so sad that it is the last moment I can have it, but when I put it in my mouth I may forget all other thinking except it’s taste.

If I have the last meal, I eat a Ddeok-kuk that made my aunt. It calls the Ddeok-kuk in Korean or Rice-cake soup in English. It is the most typical food eaten on Lunar New year’s day. Ddeok-kuk, after a meat broth is boiled with a sliced stick of rounded rice cake, is the food that is garnished rice cake soup with roasted and minced beef, strips of the yolk and the white of an egg and seaweeds. The garnish is decorating that not only makes people feel beautiful but also makes them feel much like eating to make the food look and taste better. My aunt’s Ddeok-kuk was accompanied by yellow, white, green and brown in harmonious colors. She thought the garnish is important to cook a dish just like ‘what looks good tastes good’. For that reason, her meals that she makes were always beautiful. I’d also like to make a dish beautifully like her. So, when I was young, I asked her to teach how to make the Ddeok-kuk to me. She was worried that I got hurt, but she told me easily while making the Ddeok-kuk. I still cannot forget the memories and the taste ate that time. When a person eats Ddeok-kuk on Lunar New year’s day, he or she becomes sometimes one year older. Therefore, some people don’t like to eat Ddeok-kuk on that day. But, I love it. It does not seem a special meal, but it’s a food that I have pleasant memories. Thus, I’ll eat the Ddeok-kuk with my aunt and family as my last meal.
